Venturing process

Creating and exploiting intellectual property (IP) for both our clients and ourselves is the key to Sagentia Group's business. We develop innovative technologies in the widest range of industries – including engineering, telecommunications, medical, physical & life sciences, materials & energy, and electronics – and manage the exploitation of the associated IP.

We develop such technology both internally and through external collaborations with partners, to the stage where it can generate licence revenue or be transferred to a new business. This activity not only creates licence income and value growth, but also enhances our capabilities in key areas of technology and business. This combines the complementary skills within Sagentia and Chord Capital.

Successful collaborations include:

  • Sphere Medical Holding*– result of a 2-year diligence and exploitation programme with Siemens AG
  • Cambridge Display Technology* and Cambridge Positioning Systems* – start-ups from Cambridge University
  • TurfTrax Holdings* – the result of a technology development programme and a venture with TurfTrax Speed Data
  • Ionica plc* – the result of a multi-year collaboration in the mid 1990s
  • Synaptics Inc* – the result of the development and part disposal of inductive sensing technology created at Sagentia
  • Sulzer Hexis – multimillion fuel cell business developed with Sulzer
  • Meto – early 1990s collaboration leading to global security products division of Esselte
